We had another wonderful day at Dong Hung Temple on Saturday, August 1^st for our Monthly Brunch and Dharma Talk. It was particularly special for my husband, Christian and I because we took our Refuge Vows and 5 Precepts together. We had intended on waiting at least another month, but, a few days prior we found out that the monks might move from the Temple. Their future location was uncertain and although our concern over the monks was foremost in our minds, we wondered if the monks would still be able to do the service for us. So, we had a last moment  Refuge Ceremony although you would never be able to tell. The service was just as beautiful as if it was planned weeks in advance. See more pictures

Most importantly, Chuc Thanh, our friend and teacher, administered our Vows and Precepts. We deeply appreciate the wonderful service Chuc Thanh, Chuc Do, and Chuc Hoi prepared for us.  Thank you so much.

After the service we took a break as more people began to arrive. We practiced meditation together and then had Dharma Talk. We discussed a question that was asked of Chuc Thanh from a person who had visited the Temple. This person had some confusion over the concepts of praying and God and how they played into their growing interest in Buddhism.  Many of us, who have been practicing Buddhism for years were able to share our thoughts about God and Buddhism. Others in the group, who could relate to the question, were able to openly and honestly share their concerns and I believe felt comforted with the responses they heard from both Chuc Thanh and the group.

After Dharma Talk we had walking meditation around the outside of the Temple. We then shared Brunch together in silence, tasting all the delicious foods that were brought by the group and provided by the monks. 

Later, we sat in the tea room and shared Oolong tea, chatting about Buddhism and our lives in general. I look forward to the next Brunch and Dharma Talk in September!
