B.E.C.A will begin a Third Buddhist Springtime Study group for anyone wanting to learn or further enhance knowledge on Buddhism. This time the theme will be the Dhammapada.
THE DHAMMAPADA
Instructor: Ven. Thich Chuc Thanh: Dharma Teacher, Dong Hung Temple
Facilitator: Steven Emmanuel: Prof. of Philosophy, Virginia Wesleyan College
Duration of the course: 3 months
The Dhammapada is one of the best known and most beloved texts in the Theravada Canon (an early collection of Buddhist scriptures in Pali). Consisting of 423 sayings attributed to the historical Buddha, this work contains a wealth of wisdom. The three-month course offers participants an opportunity to study and discuss the text of the Dhammapada, with an emphasis on interpreting its relevance for us today.
The course is led by Vietnamese Buddhist monk and Dharma teacher, Thich Chuc Thanh, with Virginia Wesleyan philosophy professor, Steven Emmanuel, serving as facilitator. A course syllabus will be distributed later.
