Virginia Beach, Virginia – on April 28, 2009 the Virginia Beach City council with 10 out of 11 votes agreed to let Dong Hung Buddhist temple hold religious services at their Temple in Pungo.
The plaintiffs had filed a federal lawsuit claiming that the city had violated their religious freedoms by denying them a permit last year.
After a year of practicing legally, on August 2008, the City of Virginia Beach had denied the monks’ permission to continue practicing at the temple. Then, with the help of a group of lawyers (RLUIPA) they could appeal to the federal court against the City Virginia Beach arguing that they were violating the federal Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act. John G. Stepanovich represented the temple.
On behalf of Dong Hung Buddhist temple, we would like to say thank you to Mr. John G. Stepanovich and his staff for devoting their time to help the temple. This result will bring happiness to the Vietnamese community and anyone who is looking for the path to the good life!
