WORLD TAI CHI DAY took place on Sat, April 24, 2010. It is a wave of Energy, starting in Australia, going around the world. In Va Beach, a group of local Tai Chi groups joined to do their forms and join the wave of energy. The wave started in Australia at 10 AM, and each time zone around the world did their forms at 10 AM their time. As Br Chuc Thanh was able to study the Longevity Tree, he joined us in this wave of energy. His sister, Quang Nhu joined us also. It was followed by demonstrations of the different groups and then a pot luck luncheon. What a nice idea of sharing energy with each other and the world.
LYNNHAVEN COLONY CHURCH on Great Neck Rd, VA Beach, invited Br. Chuc Thanh, to be a guest speaker for the day of sharing Religious beliefs and learning of other spiritual groups of the world on Sunday, May 2, 2010. Each year they intend to focus on a different Spiritual group, this year it was Buddhism. Several people told their stories of how they became involved in Buddhism, and what it has done for them in their lives. One of the speakers told a story to the children about planting a garden. You can plant seeds of fear, anger and hatred, or plant and water seeds of kindness, love and peace. People at the Church were so warm, welcoming and grateful to us for coming and sharing.
The Fellowship of the Inner Light, an interdenominational Church in Va Beach invited Br. Chuc Thanh to be a guest speaker for their Sunday service, which was focusing on Buddhism. After a wonderful talk about Budhism, and the Temple, questions and answers took place. Then Chuc Thanh and his sister (please insert her name) chanted the Heart Sutra. Everyone appreciated his visit and this chant tremendously.
The full moon in July is a traditional celebration called Guru Poornima Day, which is set aside to honor spiritual teachers of the World. Satchidananda Ashram (Yogaville) in Buckingham, VA, invited Br. Chuc Thanh to be the Buddhist representative for their All Faith’s service, and an afternoon discussion of spiritual leaders. The representatives came into the hall with a lit candle which they all put together in the middle of a round table to light. The one candle is signifying the commonality of all religious beliefs. I was a very moving and significant offering by each representative of their path.
