Today was our last class of the series. We began with a lesson on the importance of keys. After we were able to start class, we began discussing the different interpretations of the Buddha’s life. The initial question, in reference to the pre-class reading, was about how in one version of the history, Buddha is described as a normal man who gained enlightenment and became the Buddha, and in the other version, the Buddha was preordained in his role. The animals and even the plants reacted miraculously to his birth. In discussion, we talked about the power of symbolism, how the beauty of stories can help in explaining or understanding, and also the value of looking at the intention of the message, not just the message. After that, we had a question about the different schools of practice. More specifically, how does one choose a specific method? We learned that while they are all the same practice, the forms are different. One should look at many different forms, but chose one.
In the end of class, we were paid a visit by the Master Monk.
Thank you for the opportunity to be the class Samurai.
Well wishes to all
