Vesak Day 2016

The Sangha of Dong Hung Temple celebrated Vesak Day 2016 on May 22 with traditional Vietnamese traditions. The temple’s monks directed the day of reverent chanting, the solemn procession of the Sangha members for the Bathing of the Baby Buddha, the more robust Offering to the Hungry Ghosts and a Seeking Refuge ceremony. Taking Refuge May 18, 2016

Five Sangha members formally took refuge at the English language service the week of Vesak Day 2016.  The ceremony was conducted by the three Dong Hung Temple monks with the Abbot, Venerable Thich Chuc Hoi, presiding. Sloane Balise, Stephanie Morell, Miho Baromski, Scott Baromski and Dave Edmonds took refuge in the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha in the evening ceremony.

Spring Day with the Sangha

Dong Hung Temple hosted the “Spring Day with the Sangha” retreat on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the temple grounds.  Over 20 people from Hampton Roads and the Outer Banks of NC spent all or part of the day enjoying Dharma discussion, meditation, vegetarian lunch and tea.  In addition to Chuc Thanh leading discussions, Sangha member Pam Hill presented a wonderful, well received talk about Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva.  Charles Clarke provided soothing musical entertainment before the afternoon tea service.
