The Venerable Thich Chuc Dai led the discussion.  The Venerable Thich Chuc Thanh assisted.  This is the first in a series of Tuesday Evening Discussion Groups the temple will be conducting through 2014.  The notes I am presenting from these sessions will attempt to capture the key learning points of the topic which the Venerables concur to be in accordance with the Buddha’s teachings.

This class combined the topics Employer-Employees and Monastics-Followers ministering.  After reviewing the ways of ministering outlined in the sutra, discussion turned to a summary of the key elements of the class, including:

The topic was introducing the Six Directions as they are addressed in the sutra: North denotes friends & companions; East denotes parents & children; South denotes teachers & pupils; West denotes husband & wife; the Nadir denotes workers, servants, helpers and the Zenith denotes ascetics and Brahmins.

5:45 - 6:45 pm: One Hour Meditation. Public is welcome. English language introduction. Silent, seated meditation in the Dharma Hall.

7:00 pm – 8:30 pm: Public service in English: Chanting, meditating, Dharma discussing in English

Thursday

8:00 pm – 9:00 pm: Chanting 21 time Great Compassion Mantra (Vietnamese)
