Enlightenment is like the moon reflected on the water.
The moon does not get wet, nor is the water broken.
Although its light is wide and great,
The moon is reflected even in a puddle an inch wide.
The whole moon and the entire sky
Are reflected in one dewdrop on the grass.
Dogen

I suddenly opened my eyes, still feeling the rage of the Aleve that I took at 4:30 in the morning. The drizzle of the rain masked the sunshine, unable to return to the light of spring. I felt yawn scattered on the bed, feeling the first signs of pain from the past couple of days. In the midst of the pain, a thought came across my mind. “Today is the celebration of Buddha’s birthday!” Suddenly, I remembered that I had made a promise to help the temple with their preparations for the celebration. Normally, I always volunteer to help and perform good deeds, but ironically, the day of the celebration, I fell ill. Despite the challenges of the day, I carried on with one the thought of one simple remedy, Coffee! I quickly ran into Starbucks and prayed “Nam mô a di đà, please give me 15 minutes”! As I came to, God must have wanted me to come to Starbucks because I witnessed a life lesson take place right before my eyes that will live with me for the rest of my life.
