We had our first Dharma Talk and Brunch at the new Kempsville location on Saturday, February 20th. We began with a 10 minute meditation and a chant, “Nammo a di da phat.” Our discussion was based on the reading, “ Sitting Every day” and our dedication to follow the Dhamma. Our teacher, Thay Chuc Thanh led the discussion with the importance of meditation and how it directly effects our lives. We also talked about the next English service and what thoughts we had on incorporating chanting, music, and meditation. |

Question: In dharma talks, the causes of suffering are often discussed, as is the cessation of suffering. I have been a Buddhist for about eighteen years, and while I feel I have an understanding and acceptance of the causes of personal suffering, I find it difficult to understand the causes of suffering when we suffer for others. Such suffering is not due to ignorance or attachment. It’s raw pain when I see an animal beaten, or a child abused, or prisoners tortured. The suffering of others makes me feel so helpless. How can I accept this? |

The last days of the lunar year were unforgettable for us monks and all the Buddhist members of Dong Hung Temple in Virginia Beach. The main reason was that we are to celebrate the last traditional Tet at this location in Pungo. The upcoming move to our new location made preparation for the event much more hectic. In addition, everyone worried because the unrelenting weather continued to harass us with snow flurries and winter storms the last couple of weeks.
